About Agartala
Agartala the capital of Tripura is arguably one of the most diversely populated cities of India. The state of Tripura is surrounded on north, west and south by Bangladesh and on the east by the state of Mizoram, and on the northeast by the state of Assam. Tripura has always been a home to various mix of tribes and all these tribal amalgamation has led to an influx of people representing their own clan. Agartala, with its verdant forest cover, near perfect green backdrop, great tourist sites and laid back attitude presents a sight of an ideal tourist destination. The rich and varied tribal culture thriving on the high mountains and vast and alluring green valley adds its own charm to the attraction of the state. Agartala is rich in flora & fauna, the legendary state of Tripura is a beautiful world in itself.

The best time to visit Agartala is between October and April.
 
Airport/Ways To Reach
Agartala airport is connected to Indian cities Calcutta, Guwahati, Delhi. Other metro cities can be reached via Kolkata. Kolkata is well connected with all major cities in India and abroad. Agartala airport is just 12 km north of the city.
 
Places To Visit

UjjayantaPalace - The major attraction of the town is the Ujjayanta Palace, which was established in the Indo-Saracenic architectural style in 1901 by Maharaja Radhakishore Manikya. It is now occupies the office of the State Legislative Assembly. In the grounds, there are two temples - Umanneshwar and Jagganath - both of which are ochre in colour. It is surrounded by a well-kept Moghul-style garden with lawns and fountains. Tourists can see its flamboyantly decorated interiors when Assembly is not in session.

Kunjaban Palace - Another major place of attraction is the Kunjaban Palace built in 1917 by Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya. It is located at a distance of 1 km away from the Ujjayanta Palace on a hillock. The Palace is the official residence of the Governor of Tripura. The southern part of the Palace is open to the public and has been named as Rabindra Kanan.

Neermahal - Located about 55 km from Agartala is Neermahal, Tripura's major tourist destination. It is a summer resort built in the middle of a lake named Rudrasagar. It is the only lake palace in Eastern part of India and has been built in a blend of Hindu and Mughal architectural styles.

Debtamura - Debtamura is situated at 75 km away from Agartala, on the banks of the river Gomati, between Udaipur and Amarpur. These are carved with images of Hindu Gods like Shiva, Vishnu, Kartik, Mahisasur, Mardini Durga and other deities. These images date back to the 15th and 16th century.

Unakoti - Unakoti is located at a distance of about 178 km from Agartala and is a pilgrimage site for Shiva worship. It dates back to the 8th and 9th century.  In the center is a 30-feet-high statue of Lord Shiva who is called Unakotishwara Kal Bhairava. The main attraction of this place is the Ashokasthami festival, held every year in the month of April.

Pilak - Pilak is located at a distance of about 100 km from Agartala and is famous for its carvings in stone and terracotta plaques. There are mammoth stone images of Narasimha and Avlokiteshwara to be seen here.

Tripureshwari Temple - An important pilgrimage point for the Hindus is the Mata Tripureshwari Temple, which is among the 51 pitha stalas according to the Hindu mythology. It is situated at a distance of 58 km from Agaratala. It houses the statue of Goddess Kali. Since it is in the form of a tortoise, it is also called the Kurma Pith.

Jampui Hills - Jampui Hills are located at a distance of about 200 km from Agartala and is famous as the land of the permanent spring.

Other places of visit - BenuVan Vihar, Maharaja Veer Vikram College, Old Agartala, Buddha Vihar, Rabindra Kanan, State Museum, Tribal Museum, State Museum, Chaturdasa Devata Temple, etc.
